“I bought this book for my boss who is a doctor. He was so impressed he went and bought another copy for a friend. I think that sums up how good this book is. The instructions and the diagrams are easy to understand. The format is laid out, again, in an easy to understand manner. Overall a great book if you want to learn the basics of stretching and how that stretch works on that particular muscle group.”

Anatomy of Stretching, The

Overview

Books on stretching are common, but The Anatomy of Stretching takes a more fundamental approach than the others, taking the reader inside the body to show exactly what is happening during a stretch. At the heart of the book are 300 full-color illustrations that show the primary and secondary muscles worked in 115 key stretches arranged by body area.

Author Brad Walker brings years of expertise - he works with elite-level and world-champion athletes, and lectures on injury prevention - to this how-to guide. He looks at stretching from every angle, including physiology and flexibility; the benefits of stretching; the different types of stretching; rules for safe stretching; and how to stretch properly. Aimed at fitness enthusiasts of any level, as well as at fitness pros, The Anatomy of Stretching also focuses on which stretches are useful for the alleviation or rehabilitation of specific sports injuries.

Brad Walker, Assoc. Dip. Health Science (Sport and Exercise) is a prominent Australian sports trainer with more than 20 years' experience in the health and fitness industry. Brad graduated from the University of New England, and has postgraduate accreditations in athletics, swimming, and triathlon coaching.

"A light weight book, 165 pages which cover 114 stretches. There are 200 detailed sketch style pictures of men and in different stretches. There are 15 color-coded chapters with good sized illustrations on nearly every page. Pictures are sketched very accurately in black, white and shades of gray and arranged in chapters by body area. They show the primary and secondary muscles that are being worked, muscles are colored in shades of pink and red and really pop out from the page. An instant understanding of the body part being worked can be gained with a glance."

“I gave this book as a present to a friend who is into sports and has recently had a couple of injuries because of not stretching properly. It is the best book he has ever had that has been informative yet simple enough to pick up and use when required without having to read too much detail. A very useful book that shows you exactly what muscles you are stretching with good illustrations; in fact I may need to buy one for myself now, as he keeps telling me how useful it is – highly recommended.”
